An Autumn “old time” train ride in Romney, West Virginia.
Images taken with either a Fujifilm X-T5 or Rich GRIII (edited with film simulations and Lightroom).
If you’re in the mood for an “old time” experience, a train ride through rural West Virginia might be a good choice.
There’s a train company called, “Potomac Eagle” that gives you a scenic view of the mountains and local wildlife (i.e. eagles).
The ride takes about 3.5 hours and it seems October is their peak season as it’s open every day (I’m sure the foliage is the reason).
The Town and Station
Prior to boarding, there’s downtown Romney where you can get breakfast/lunch. We went to a local coffee shop before heading over to the train station. Once at the station, tickets are picked up at the “will call” and you wait to get boarded by car number.
The Ride
Going during mid-October was probably the best timing. The fall colors and the clear blue river waters really made the experience.
More Scenery
It’s amazing how a 2-2.5 hour drive away from the Washington, DC area can really make you feel far from reality.
The Way Back
The train features an “outdoor” car that allows passengers to have 360 degree views. Once everyone’s had a turn, the train makes its way back to Romney.
